E46 330 Oil Consumption: BimmerFest BMW Forum Sounds like the alternator pulley or a belt at the front. Try to spray the belt /puley and see if the noise dissapears. It's difficult to compare using only sound from phones (as good as they are). Is it anything like this? If not, then my money is on a belt, as already said.

2002 330i, what noises are "normal'???? - E46 Fanatics Forum It's now making a rattling sound on idle (like a knocking kinda sound) but after rpm the engine sounds normal again and drives properly. Smooth idle, normal power and everything works. I put the old pulleys back but still the same rattle.
330/335d Owners Help Engine Noise - BIMMERPOST edit: figured it out. Air whooshing noise is normal on BMW's, the tick when starting cold was solved when i changed the oil to mobil 1 0w, and the whine was solved by topping up the a/c refrigerant.

I believe the sound you are hearing inside the car is different, and I believe it is coming from the airbox (if its the same as mine).

Bmw 330d - M57 is this engine noise normal? - BIMMERPOST Wenn ich das Auto starte, dreht der Anlasser ganz normal. Wenn dann aber der Motor ansprigt, quasi bei den ersten selbständigen Umdrehungen, quietscht es kurz, max 1 Sekunde und dann ist wieder.
Anlasser austauschen BMW E60 M54 Motor, Starter wechseln, E60 Nach km darf auch mal ein Anlasser aufgeben.
